Tax Progress

Sort of. The B'ham News reports:

Gov. Bob Riley and a group of about 40 Republican and black lawmakers today endorsed a compromise state income tax reduction that would save taxpayers $133 million a year after a five-year phase-in.

The bill would raise the threshold at which a couple with two children would start paying the state income tax from $4,600 a year to about $12,500 a year.

Hmmm, a tax plan that is supported by 'black lawmakers' and that will primarily benefit poor people. How long until the Alabama Christian Coalition voices its opposition?

If memory serves, this still leaves us with the lowest tax threshold in the country.
